IC Mask Design Announces Expansion Plans

Ireland’s largest IC Layout company and one of Europe’s leading experts in IC Layout, IC Mask Design is planning an expansion of its operation which will see it create nine new engineering roles in Europe in the next 12-24 months, this will be IC Mask Design’s second expansion plan in two years.  IC Mask Design’s ambitious national and international expansion programme will include restructuring and recruitment. Recruitment has already commenced for engineers at a time when the company has a new pipeline of work in Germany, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Italy, and USA.

In August 2020 CEO Fergal Brosnan announced exciting expansion plans for the following two years, 2021-2023, IC Mask Design: Combining innovation and unrivalled engineering knowledge – The Irish Advantage,  now, on the completion of these plans IC Mask Design has its eyes firmly set on the next 12 to 24 months. The firm has re-structured its business, recently promoting Jorge Araiza to Technical Lead and Director of Engineering, John Johnson, to Chief Operating Officer to allow founders Fergal Brosnan and Ciaran Whyte to focus on IC Mask Design’s areas of expertise responsible for delivering future growth. As a result, a new generation of leaders will work alongside the executive management team to help the business scale to its next level of growth and development.

With its Engineering HQ in Maynooth, Ireland and offices in UK, Italy IC Mask Design already employs a team of 37, including 30 engineers plus professional staff. Between completed and current projects, IC Mask Design has worked on over 220 projects, 50 of which were at <16nm. IC Mask Design was established in 2002 by CEO Fergal Brosnan, and CTO Cíarán Whyte. Today, they lead the business with a management team that includes highly experienced Directors, all leaders in their respective fields.

Despite the challenging market conditions in 2023, a 9% to 12% recovery is expected in 2024, the semiconductor market is expected to rebound due to strong demand for high-performance computing (HPC) and a soft inventory reduction in wireless communication and smartphones. The semiconductor foundry race is also heating up, with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) remaining the undisputed leader in the foundry business. TSMC is aggressively investing in increasing its capacity and the development of sub-2-nm foundries which will ease supply problems.
